Zach Blumenfeld: A Semester In Prague

Zach Blumenfeld (Class of 2014) is a Communication major. He studied abroad in Prague, Czech Republic during the Spring, 2013 semester, where he was able to take courses for his major and complete his Global Engagement requirement.

Zach Blumenfeld (Class of 2014) is a Communication major. He studied abroad in Prague, Czech Republic during the Spring, 2013 semester, where he was able to take courses for his major and complete his Global Engagement requirement.

In fulfillment of his GE requirement, Zach joined the Anglo-American University Student Council as the foreign exchange student representative. As he explained it, “…the idea of connecting with people my own age that live halfway around the world was too great of an opportunity to pass up.”

As part of his experience, he was responsible for helping to plan the Anglo-American University Annual Ball. The ball is the Student Council’s biggest event of the year and the planning process really allowed Zach to explore new parts of Prague with local students. Initially concerned that he was the only non-Czech student on the Council, Zach reflected later that he “was having the time of my life in Prague – in large part due to my participation on the Anglo-American University Student Council.”

In addition to serving on the Student Council, Zach also went paintballing with his American roommates and some of his new Czech friends, explored local parks, traveled around Europe and was able to attend guest lectures, including one hosted by the American Embassy which was given by internationally known economist and terrorism expert Alan Krueger.

His final thought: “I never stepped outside of my comfort zone quite like I did in Prague …and in retrospect, I couldn’t be happier with the way things turned out!”
