"Defending Giants": The Redwood Wars And Environmental Activism
October 05, 2016
New book from history Ph.D. alumnus Daren Spence examines late 20th century American environmental politics.
Former PhD student Darren Speece has published his first book, “Defending Giants” in which he analyzes the Redwood Wars and examines the transformation of American environmental politics.
In his book, Speece tells a story of activism, forest policy, and ever changing environmental politics in America in the late twentieth century. Praised by Bill McKibben, a noteworthy environmentalist and co-founder of 350.org, and many others, “Defending Giants” provides a history of environmental advocacy that demonstrates the power of protesting and creative campaigning in a time of deep political polarization.
Speece will be discussing “Defending Giants” on October 26th from 6:30-8:00 PM at Sidwell Friends Upper School, who is co-hosting the event with Politics & Prose.
